Welcome to Helen Casey-MacDuff's online gallery, a showcase of her recent paintings in a growing contemporary art collection.
Throughout this online portfolio, Helen explores the relationship between the natural and metaphysical worlds through a semi-abstract lens.
With a background in art education, she has honed her skills to create a range of pieces that express her imagination and intuitive process.
Living in New Zealand, Helen is inspired by the landscapes that surround her - from lush native forests to serene Coromandel beach scenes. Her work often focuses on the precious nature of water, while the big skies of the plains provide a constant source of inspiration. Helen uses colour and movement to express psychological themes, integrated with her unique artistic style.
About the artist...
After a 20-year career as an art educator and following success in various exhibitions and awards selections, Helen is embarking on sharing significantly more of her paintings with a wide audience. Her paintings explore original concepts, derived from the landscape as subject matter, yet portray a soulful essence that cannot easily be replicated. Although she has worked with a wide range of media, Helen specialises in the rendering of oil paints to create a blend of both semi-abstract and representational styles.
Through using a range of painterly techniques and harmonious colour palettes, Helen conveys a sense of implied movement, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the serene atmosphere of her works. Her purpose is to convey a sense of wonder and to enliven interior spaces with unique modern art that reflects nature with a subtle, spiritual nuance. Her intuitive approach to painting allows for a sense of depth, often enhanced by the magical play of light, to portray the ever-changing essence of mother nature.
